The Tennessee Cryptozoological Research Network (TCRN) was founded in 2003 by a loose coalition of naturalists, folklorists, and amateur researchers who shared a common interest in the unexplained sightings occurring across the state. What began as an email listserv of eleven people has grown into an informal network of over two hundred active contributors across all ninety-five counties.

We do not claim to prove or disprove the existence of any creature documented on this site. Our goal is straightforward: to collect, preserve, and organize eyewitness reports before they are lost to time. Tennessee has a rich tradition of creature lore stretching back through Cherokee and Shawnee oral history, through the first European settlers, and into the present day. That record deserves to be taken seriously as a cultural and potentially biological phenomenon.

Our Methods

Every entry in this archive begins with a report — a letter, an email, a phone call, or a face-to-face conversation. TCRN volunteers conduct follow-up interviews where possible, visit reported sites, and attempt to corroborate accounts through local newspaper records, land surveys, and consultation with wildlife biologists. We note where evidence is strong, where it is weak, and where it is absent entirely.

We do not sensationalize. We do not fabricate. If a report cannot be verified to any reasonable standard, it is listed as Unverified. We believe this honesty is what separates serious cryptozoological research from entertainment.
